Does Klaviyo Break Shopify Checkout? How to Monitor It

By Gary Gillespie · Last updated

Klaviyo is one of the most-installed Shopify apps, and mostly harmless — but its onsite elements sit right on the conversion path, so they're worth monitoring.

What Klaviyo runs on your storefront

Klaviyo adds two things to the page a shopper sees: onsite forms and popups (signup, back-in-stock, spin-to-win) and the active-on-site tracking snippet that powers segmentation and attribution. Both are JavaScript that loads on your product, cart and (sometimes) checkout-adjacent pages.

How Klaviyo can break checkout

  • A popup covers the buy button on mobile. A full-screen or bottom-anchored signup form can overlap Add to Cart or the checkout button on small screens, where most traffic is.
  • A form traps scroll or focus. A modal that doesn't dismiss cleanly can stop the shopper from reaching the cart.
  • The tracking snippet errors after an update. Conversions stop attributing, so your Klaviyo (and downstream ad) reporting goes blind — no visible error, just wrong numbers.
  • Form + theme conflict can throw console errors that halt other scripts on the page.

How to monitor Klaviyo

Two layers. App-conflict monitoring fingerprints Klaviyo's scripts and flags when they change or start erroring. Checkout monitoring runs a real purchase on desktop and mobile, so if a Klaviyo popup covers the button on mobile, the run fails and you get a screenshot of it — before customers hit it.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Klaviyo popup stop people checking out?
Yes — on mobile a signup popup or sticky form can overlap the Add to Cart or checkout button, or trap scroll, blocking the purchase. The page still loads normally, so it's easy to miss without mobile monitoring.
Why did my conversions stop tracking in Klaviyo?
Usually the onsite tracking snippet erroring after a theme or app update. It's invisible in the admin; app-fingerprint monitoring flags the change.
Do I have to remove Klaviyo to avoid this?
No. The fix is monitoring, not removal — catch the rare conflict quickly rather than turning off a core tool.
